Stan Palmateer's 17th Annual

24-Hour Tennis Marathon
August 19 - 20, 2006, noon to noon at Mimico Tennis Club

Teaching Pro Stan Palmateer’s 17th Annual Tennis Marathon for the Heart and Stroke Foundation runs Saturday, Aug. 19 to Sunday, Aug. 20, noon to noon, on our new red clay tennis courts at Mimico Tennis Club.

Stan started this tennis fundraiser and community event in 1989 and every year, he continues to makes it fun and manages to display his clever shot-making abilities for an incredible 24 hours straight!!. Stan and his supporters have raised more than $46,000 for this worthy cause over the years.

The success of this event and the dollars raised are incredible achievements by a fine athlete and tennis pro… but Stan can’t do it without you! Members of Mimico, Central and Laura Hill Tennis Clubs are invited to pay to play with Stan over the 24-hour period and to cheer him on! Enjoy the exciting tennis on Court 1 with Stan and his marathon groups, play tennis throughout the marathon on Courts 2 and 3, or take part in the many off-court marathon activities and merriment! You’ll also receive a tax receipt for your donation.

Teams:
Congratulations to our Ladies daytime team who finished in a very close second place in this, their first season in the Toronto Ladies Tennis League.

At the mid way point of the season, our 2 mixed intercounty teams are both doing very well.  The B team is tied for first place with Swansea and the C team is in second place!  Way to go!  Keep up the strong play the second half of the season!

SPRING 2006 NEWSLETTER

Executive News
The executive welcomes Mel Need to the board who has stepped forward to assume the role of Vice President.

The court surface is going to be professionally prepared again this year by Court Contractors.  The workload will be much less than last year when the courts were completely rebuilt.  This year, there is just resurfacing to do.  We will still be putting up our own windscreens and nailing down all the lines ourselves so watch for notices on those work parties.  If the weather co-operates, we hope to be open by the first week of May.

2005 News

Marisa DeFrancesco is recognized by the Ontario Tennis Association as Volunteer of the Month - Congratulations Marisa!
The following is the article that appeared in the August 2005 issue of the OTA E-Magazine:

Marisa DeFrancesco is our volunteer of the month. Marisa is the enthusiastic President of Central Tennis Club and one of the reasons this small club has been so successful in recent years. Hidden away behind a new school and recreation centre, the three court club has an attractive setting and is a delightful spot to hang out.

Marisa is also a supporter of Stan Palmateer's annual tennis marathon.  Stan, the tennis pro with the Central, Mimico and Laura Hill Tennis Clubs, will be playing his 16th 24-hour Marathon for the Heart and Stroke Foundation from noon on Saturday, August 20th until noon on Sunday, August 21st at Mimico Tennis Club. Since 1989, Stan has collected over $44,000 for this charity over the years and has also created an annual community event where good times, both on and off the courts, are enjoyed by all participants. Members and guests are asked to “pay to play” doubles with Stan over the 24-hour period and to take part in round robin games on the other red clay courts. Tax receipts will be provided on site for donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. In addition, there will be delicious food and surprises throughout the event with a BBQ party on Saturday night and a waffle and pancake breakfast on Sunday morning. Come support Stan in his 16th tennis marathon weekend! For more information, please visit the website www.mimicotennisclub.org.

Mimico Tennis Club has new red clay courts thanks to a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

The courts were completely reconstructed in May 2005, which included excavating, grading, and resurfacing the courts with new material. An automatic sprinkler system was also installed to water the courts, purchased with club contingency funds.

Court Contractors Ltd. did the court reconstruction, and the sprinklers were installed by Aquatec Irrigation. The project was managed by the Court Renovations Task Group composed of Vice President Devraj Singha, Joan Reid, Gary Mantle, George Artemiw, Stan Palmateer and President Jennifer Conron.

The new courts were officially opened at the Mimico French Open, Saturday, June 11, 2005.
